An airport rail link is promised via Gilmour Street. What a treat for new visitors.
Is "strollin' with the purple fella" some sort of urban slang?
Can you not get arrested for that?
Please not that Queen song again tonight!
I fear the worst Billy of Alloa. Dignity in the running as well.
Proclaimers will probably be walking 500miles as well. Though I cannot think of any suitable Blondie songs for Glen.
Deborah Harry - 'Bike Boy' Jx
Anything from Parallel Lines?
D'oh!A Walk in the Park for me.
Does anyone know what the "link" is the Liquid Entertainer keeps losing?
Is it not the plot?
The only thing she hasn't lost is the opener.
Busy in here...Where is everybody?
Games going well. Norovirus, escaping athletes, mass volunteer call-offs and a TV blackout.
Hope it all goes well though. Jx
You forgot about the impending traffic carnage. Why oh why did they not put in trams.
I mean they were good enough for the garden festival after all...
What was the garden festival about? I feel sorry for the people who bought flats there. It's like Beirut.
Bit harsh.....on Beruit.
A 2 week break! What will we complain about!
keep posting...we can complain about your spelling ;o) Jx
'Struth, there's Johnny Winter away. Sad news.
He wasn't great at the Ferry a couple of years ago - sitting down - but he could still play. He had enormous hands. Listen to some great slide playing here
gaie! Jackson Browne GRCH.
thanks, Norrie - sadly probably have to give it a miss this time, already got John Mayall and Robert Plant that week.....assuming they last the course
No fancy a punt on tonight's theme Billy??Here! Where's Henri these days? Is he on a sabbatical somewhere?
last seen arguing for the Better Together camp on FB.
Just back fae a wee holiday. Have I missed much?
We had a very interesting discussion about the Edinburgh trams, we mourned the passing of Johnny Winter, there was possibly a lot of talk about the football but it passed me by, Norrie came back, Paolopablo's selling all his records and Henri's gone AWOL. So have you spent all your pocket money and will you not be able to afford the 'new' Pink Floyd album? I hope you had a good holiday. I've been to Oxford, Edinburgh, and Millport. I walked from Troon to Ardrossan, passing through Irvine, Stevenston, and Kilwinning though the latter was an inadvertent detour owing to careless reading of directions. Just to get you back up to speed, we're going to be discussing sport and cultural activities for the next fortnight, and the theme song will be Twin Atlantic's Heart and Soul as chosen by myself and the athletes.
I had an overnighter in North Queensferry - a busman's holiday for an ex-bridge engineer and came back via Culross (being de-prettified for a film) and the Falkirk Wheel (still busy and working well). Missed The Kelpies.
All sounds good. I managed a trip in the boat to Lindisfarne and back, followed by a holiday in North Devon. Lobster fishing picking up now (six in the one creel this morning)! No more Floyd albums needed here. My youngest let me hear a new band last week and I wiz impressed. Cannae mind the name but I'll find out.
you not sailing up the Clyde on Saturday, DC?
Mad Mac and I go to the same place on holiday - next time we can all go together.
Is there a lot to do in North Queensferry?
Once a bridge engineer always a bridge engineer....
You can see the new bridge. There's not much happening since the ferry closed.
I see the entertainer is having a go at poor old henri...
Facebook "I dont know who you are Hannah.....
On the GIO page?
On the GIO page??
I see where he got his name.
Have you got your vote in Glen?http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/3CPpg0bvRvy4kVLtv49MyD6/radio-2-top-100-greatest-guitar-riffs-vote
I see Mick Ronson in twice. But I vote for i cant explain.
I don't see some on the list - Communication Breakdown, You Shook Me All Night Long, any Eddie Cochran, Jailhouse Rock, Purple Haze or any Hendrix. I presume the list isn't exclusive. If it is there's no point in voting.
If it isn't there's still no point in voting, is there?
Always a point in voting Glen.Good observations though.
Didn't see you at the Conor Oberst gig, Norrie? It was pretty good, though hellish hot - am assuming the droning noise was the air-con trying and failing to cool us down. I think Conor, who still can't sing, but puts so much into his performance you can kind of ignore that - I think he made an inspired choice of Dawes as backing band. Now you'd never think that from their recordings which are kind of bland, but put them on stage and the fireworks erupt. Well worth going to, but The National stand head and shoulders above all for me at the moment. Next up Kevin MCDermott at the Beacon, Greenock this Friday. Running Down a Dream for me. As if you didn't know.
You see now that I am sober you made the mistake of looking for the swaying / lurching man.......
aw, Norrie - were you there indeed? I was scared to move in case I became the swaying lurching person and keeled over with the heat. Did you enjoy?
I'm usually unable to penetrate Norrie's entourage.
You can penetrate my entourage anytime - I mean you are an esteemed former bridge engineer after all and us MICE must stick together. You really must say hello sometime.
Blackmore, quite rightly, has two as well but he must be as mystified as the rest of us over the choice of Long Live Rock n Roll as one of them.
Needless to say I think Lizzy could have had more than one ......
Do you want to re-phrase that?
Purple Haze IS on there! Its a pity Henri's gone coz I'd like to know if Day Tripper would have been his Beatles choice.
I stand corrected. I'm inclined to think that Communication Breakdown is the best riff.
Three men in black said don't report this but here's another great riff
Very Spinal Tap, that lot.
More used to stadium tours in their heyday, I saw them at The Ferry where they stood shoulder to shoulder on a postage stamp stage and stuck the drummer in an alcove. They were still good and Buck Dharma is one of the finest guitarists - in the world.
I think the top 3 will be Layla, Paranoid and Smoke on the Water. Not necessarily in that order.
Layla has more than three notes and is therefore too complicated for the popular vote. Paranoid is Communication Breakdown with its brains removed. Smoke On The Water is Knock On Wood with a semitone added. That reminds me of this a real tension builder.
He's still on the go.
The Jam did a version of this..
Just seen your Games Uniform.I'm surprised our hero hasn't gotten into a kilt like that.
The colour blind leading the colour blind.
Is Kelvin Dale in this thing tonight??
Possibly, he does a Rod Stewart tribute act.
If that was him impersonating Rod he wasnt very good at it. Even worse than the real guy.
And was that PB doing SB??
I didnae see any of the show. Was it good?
We didnt get it over here but it sounds as if it was a bit embarrassing. Was it?
Most of it was very good.
The weather helped - surprisingly it's been pushing 30 deg. here.
So I hear. Since been told good things, especially the giant screen.
I seem to be on my own here - I thought the singing was dire. Expected Fran & Anna on with Highland Cathedral at any moment.
that said, just back from a wee recce round the city and she's looking just grand. Clean and smiling and lovely.
Felt a bit sorry for Lulu - relegated to Glasgow Green. I enjoyed the show apart from the unending parade of athletes - they should limit teams to ten members. Obviously the more people you send, the more prizes you'll win. It's patently unfair on small countries.
Perhaps the smaller countries could do other events?Sack race, egg and spoon, pillow fighting spring to mind.
How can the world be a fair place when countries are different sizes? This is the problem we should be tackling.£3.5M raised for UNICEF in the UK so far.
Ah kain, look at the size o Brazil! And they didnae even qualify for the commonwealth games!Just as well yer flotilla isnae on the Forth by the way caws naebiddy would see it. Gawn yersels!
I went from sunny Edinburgh to North Berwick yesterday where it was lovely and sunny but you couldn't see but a few yards of sea from the beach. First time I've been there and not been able to see the Bass Rock. Jx
DC, we have the Pan American Games. Another non event that the rest of the world has no interest in but people think you should spend a lot of of money on.At least in the UK it gives Gary something to do when the football's not on.And why does he get the get the gig and no Archie Macpherson?
Fine like yat in your picter Ms Broon.
and they even got my name right this time....
Probably old hat, but this made me laugh today:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WNrx2jq184
Yip, we did that when news o' thon swan in Cellardyke hit the headlines.
If this fog lifts, it'll never be mist....Thick as brose here this week
We win mair medals when we're part of Team GB.
You inglish supporters aye say thatMebbes next time?
Scotland must be really prosperous judging by the number of yachts at Pacific Quay yesterday.
What we need are river taxis. Amphibious Git
"South of Millport at this time of night, guv? You must be joking."
Yaffa yat? Whit yat yaffa?
Y'ought to see my yacht, I'll sail it on the canal so you canal see it. Old Millport proverb.
And I'll sail her up the west coast, through villages and townsI'll be on my holidays, they'll be doing their rounds
am I right in thinking that yesterday's Glasgow 2014 fan of the day was our own Dale_Kelvin
It's not a particularly coveted award, is it?
